Validate a WhatsApp number
Paste a messy number and get it back clean: E.164 format, digits ready for the API and a wa.me link. It detects an invalid area code and fixes the 9th digit automatically.
Accepts a number pasted with parentheses, dashes and spaces. With or without country code 55.
What the tool checks
Before sending or importing a list, a badly formatted number becomes a message that never gets delivered. This tool cleans and checks the number on three fronts: the country code (55 for Brazil), the area code (against the list of valid area codes) and the number of digits, telling mobile from landline.
When a mobile number is missing its ninth digit, it adds it for you. When the area code does not exist or there are extra digits, it warns you. In the end you get the number in three ready formats: E.164 (the international standard every API accepts), digits only to use directly in code, and the wa.me link to open the chat.
Frequently asked questions
What is the E.164 format?
It is the international phone numbering standard used by practically every messaging API. In Brazil it looks like this: +55 followed by the area code and the number, with no spaces or symbols (e.g. +5511956604165).
What is the 9th digit?
Since 2016, mobile numbers in Brazil have 9 digits after the area code, starting with 9. Older numbers with 8 digits need the 9 in front. The tool detects and fixes this automatically.
Does this tool confirm that the number has WhatsApp?
It validates the format (country code, area code and number of digits), not whether the account exists. To check whether a number really has an active WhatsApp, use the verification endpoint of the ZapZap API.
Check whether the number has WhatsApp
Formatting is the first step. With the ZapZap API you check in real time whether a number has an active WhatsApp before sending, and you also warm up the chip and send with anti-ban.
