Chatbot integration

Integrate WhatsApp with Typebot using ZapZap API

Typebot is an open source visual builder for conversational chatbots. Instead of static forms, you build a question-and-answer flow using draggable blocks: text and media bubbles, inputs to capture visitor data and logic and integration blocks. The bot leads the conversation, stores each answer in variables and lets you publish the flow as a link, a site embed or a popup. It is widely used for lead capture, qualification and onboarding, precisely because it turns a boring sign-up into a natural chat.

Why connect

Typebot is great for capturing data inside a conversation, but by default the conversation happens in the browser. By connecting Typebot to ZapZap API, every lead who finishes the flow can receive a WhatsApp message right away: a confirmation, the booking link, a coupon or a first contact from an agent. A concrete scenario: a clinic publishes a Typebot that asks for name, phone and the procedure of interest. As soon as the lead answers, the integration block calls ZapZap API and the clinic's WhatsApp sends a personalized welcome message with the next steps. The lead leaves the flow and already finds an open conversation on WhatsApp, with nobody typing anything by hand. Since each number runs on a managed instance with community warm-up and AI per instance, this automatic sending happens closer to human behavior, which lowers the risk of a ban.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Build the flow and capture the data in Typebot

    In the Typebot editor, drag blocks from the Inputs category onto the canvas: use the Text input for the name and the Phone number input for the phone. Typebot saves each answer in a variable, for example {{Name}} and {{Phone}}. Check the variable names in the Variables panel, in the editor's corner.

  2. 2

    Add the HTTP request block

    Open the block palette on the right, go to the Integrations category and drag the HTTP request block (formerly the Webhook block) to the end of the flow, after the inputs. This is the block that will talk to ZapZap API when the lead finishes answering.

  3. 3

    Configure method, URL and headers

    Click the HTTP request block to open its settings. Under Method choose POST and under URL paste ZapZap API's sending endpoint (base https://api.zapzapapi.com, check the exact path at https://api.zapzapapi.com/llms.txt). Open Headers and add two lines: x-api-key with your key and x-api-secret with your secret, both available in the ZapZap dashboard.

  4. 4

    Build the Body with Typebot variables

    Still in the block, go to Body and select JSON. Write the body referencing the captured variables with double braces, for example the number in {{Phone}} and a message that uses {{Name}}. Typebot substitutes the real values at the time of sending. The exact body field names are documented at https://api.zapzapapi.com/llms.txt.

  5. 5

    Test in preview and publish

    Click Test in the top bar to run the flow in preview mode and check that the request goes out with a success status (you can use Test the request inside the block itself). Once the sending is confirmed on WhatsApp, click Publish to put the Typebot live as a link, embed or popup.

Example

// ILLUSTRATIVE example of the HTTP request block Body (POST)
// Exact fields are in the docs: https://api.zapzapapi.com/llms.txt
//
// URL:    https://api.zapzapapi.com/api/v1/{instanceId}/send/text   (illustrative endpoint)
// Method: POST
// Headers:
//   x-api-key: YOUR_API_KEY
//   x-api-secret: YOUR_API_SECRET
//   Content-Type: application/json
//
// Body (JSON) with Typebot variables:
{
  "number": "{{Phone}}",
  "text": "Hi {{Name}}, we received your contact and will be with you here shortly."
}

Illustrative. The exact fields and endpoints are in the documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the official WhatsApp Business API to use it with Typebot?

No. ZapZap API works with managed unofficial WhatsApp instances. You connect your number by reading a QR code in the dashboard and start sending and receiving messages by REST, without needing template approval or Meta's official process.

How does Typebot authenticate with ZapZap API?

Authentication is through two headers in the HTTP request block: x-api-key and x-api-secret. You generate this pair in the ZapZap dashboard and paste it into the request Headers. Without them, the call is refused.

Can I receive WhatsApp replies back in the flow?

Typebot is the outbound trigger: it fires the message when the lead finishes the flow. To react to messages arriving on WhatsApp, ZapZap API sends events by webhook, which you can handle in a separate automation (n8n, Make or your backend). The available events are at https://api.zapzapapi.com/llms.txt.

How much does it cost to keep this running?

ZapZap charges R$15 per active number per month, on the prepaid model, and you start with a welcome credit when you create the account, subject to the current campaign. Typebot has a free plan and its own paid plans. The integration itself, through the HTTP request block, has no additional cost.

Can sending an automatic message to every lead get my number banned?

Automatic sending at volume always calls for care. ZapZap works with community warm-up, anti-ban features and AI per instance to make behavior more natural, which lowers the risk. Still, use relevant messages and avoid mass sending to contacts who did not ask to be contacted.
