WhatsApp number warm-up checklist

A roadmap to print or save as PDF and tick by hand. It lays out what to do before using a new number to sell: prepare the profile, talk to real people, grow slowly and know when to stop.

In the print dialog, choose Save as PDF.

Why warm up

WhatsApp reacts to behavior patterns. A brand-new number with no history that sends many messages to people who never spoke to it looks like spam. Warming up means building a natural usage history before the first send in volume.

WhatsApp has no official warm-up policy: what follows is market practice, not a platform rule, and nothing here guarantees a number will not be restricted.

1. Preparation

  • SIM with an active plan, in the name of whoever will run it, receiving SMS.
  • Complete profile: photo, business name and about text.
  • Number connected in a stable way, without switching devices all the time.
  • Five or more real contacts who agreed to talk to this number.

2. Real conversations

  • Exchange back-and-forth messages with people who reply.
  • Receive messages, not only send.
  • Vary the format: text, audio, image.
  • Avoid links, bulk media and identical messages to several contacts.
  • Log what you did each day in the table below.

3. Gradual growth

  • Raise the volume slowly, only if the previous day went well.
  • Reply fast to whoever writes.
  • Join real groups without posting ads.
  • Keep send times within what a human would do.

4. Before the first broadcast

  • List of people who agreed to receive (consent on record).
  • Personalized message, not identical text for everyone.
  • A clear way to leave the list (for example, reply STOP).
  • Pauses between sends, starting with a small part of the list.
  • A plan to stop if blocks, reports or disconnections go up.

Warning signs: stop and reassess

  • Contacts blocking or reporting the number.
  • Messages that stop being delivered.
  • Repeated disconnections.
  • App notices about the number.

This checklist is a good-practice guide. WhatsApp can restrict numbers that send unwanted messages, and warming up lowers risk signals but does not remove the possibility.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to warm up a number?

There is no official timeline. It depends on how natural the number's use is and on how contacts respond. That is why the checklist uses a daily log instead of a fixed number of days.

Does warming up guarantee the number will not be blocked?

No. Warming up lowers spam-like signals, but WhatsApp decides on its own, and consent and relevant messages weigh more than warm-up.

Does ZapZap warm the number up for me?

ZapZap offers community warm-up, where numbers exchange messages with each other. See the full guide on the warm-up page.
