Webhook integration

Integrate WhatsApp with ActiveCampaign

ActiveCampaign is a marketing automation and CRM platform that orchestrates contact journeys through Automations. The integration with ZapZap API lets you send WhatsApp messages as a step inside those automations, using the native Webhook action. ZapZap API is an unofficial, instance-based WhatsApp API: you connect a real number via QR Code and start sending messages programmatically. Authentication uses the x-api-key and x-api-secret headers, and billing is R$15 per active number per month, prepaid, with a welcome credit when you create the account, subject to the current campaign.

Why connect

An aesthetics clinic captures leads through an ActiveCampaign form. When the contact joins the list, an Automation fires that sends a welcome email and, in the same flow, a WhatsApp message confirming interest and offering a time slot. If the lead does not reply within 2 days, the automation sends a reminder on WhatsApp. Because the sending happens inside the ActiveCampaign journey itself, marketing and customer service stay in sync with no manual work, and the sales team receives the lead already warmed up on the channel they use the most.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Connect your number on ZapZap API

    In the ZapZap API dashboard, create an instance and scan the QR Code with the WhatsApp of the number that will send the messages. Save the instanceId, x-api-key and x-api-secret generated for the instance.

  2. 2

    Open the Automation in ActiveCampaign

    In the side menu, go to Automations and create a new automation or edit an existing one. Define the trigger, for example Subscribes to a list or Submits a form, to decide when the WhatsApp message will be sent.

  3. 3

    Add the Webhook action

    Inside the flow, click the plus sign to add an action, choose the CX Apps category (or Conditions and Workflow) and select Webhook. This is the action that sends the contact data out of ActiveCampaign.

  4. 4

    Point the webhook to your sending endpoint

    Paste the URL of your intermediate endpoint that receives the contact from ActiveCampaign and calls ZapZap API. ActiveCampaign sends contact fields such as phone and name; your endpoint builds the body with number and text and makes the authenticated call to ZapZap API.

  5. 5

    Activate and test the automation

    Save, set the automation to Active and run a test contact with a real number. Confirm the message arrives on WhatsApp and adjust the text, delays and conditions of the flow to match the journey you want.

Example

// ILLUSTRATIVE example: intermediate endpoint that receives the webhook
// from ActiveCampaign and fires the WhatsApp message through ZapZap API.
// Check the real reference at https://api.zapzapapi.com/llms.txt

const instanceId = "YOUR_INSTANCE_ID";

// data coming from the ActiveCampaign webhook (contact)
const contact = { phone: "5511999999999", name: "Maria" };

await fetch(`https://api.zapzapapi.com/api/v1/${instanceId}/send/text`, {
  method: "POST",
  headers: {
    "Content-Type": "application/json",
    "x-api-key": "YOUR_API_KEY",
    "x-api-secret": "YOUR_API_SECRET"
  },
  body: JSON.stringify({
    number: contact.phone,
    text: `Hello ${contact.name}, we received your contact and will be with you shortly.`
  })
});

Illustrative. The exact fields and endpoints are in the documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an intermediate server between ActiveCampaign and ZapZap API?

Yes, in most cases. ActiveCampaign's Webhook action sends the contact fields in its own format, so you use your own endpoint or a tool like Make or n8n to transform that data into the body ZapZap API expects and add the authentication headers.

How much does it cost to send WhatsApp through ActiveCampaign?

ZapZap API charges R$15 per active number per month, on the prepaid model, and you receive a welcome credit when you create the account, subject to the current campaign. ActiveCampaign's own plan is a separate cost. There is no per-message charge on ZapZap API.

What contact data can I use in the message?

ActiveCampaign's Webhook action sends the contact fields, including phone, name, email and custom fields. You use those values in your endpoint to personalize the text before calling ZapZap API.

Is this the official WhatsApp API?

No. ZapZap API is an unofficial, instance-based solution in which you connect a real number via QR Code. That is why we recommend sending relevant messages, respecting contacts' opt-in and warming up the number gradually.

Where can I find the technical reference for the endpoints?

The machine-readable documentation and the list of endpoints are at https://api.zapzapapi.com/llms.txt. Use it as the source to build your sending calls on the base https://api.zapzapapi.com.
